World's Backgammon Tournaments

• The World Cup - The is the most important of all backgammon torunaments, held every year in Dalls in August. The matches in this tournaments are usually longer than matches in other tournaments. EAch round in the main event is a best 3 out of 5, 11 point series. Clocks are used to time each match and ensure play speed as well as game pressure.



• The World Championship - This tournament held every year at the Loew's Hotel in Monte Carlo is one of the biggest events, hosting around 400-500 players each year. Most participants are Europeans altough there is an increasing number of Americans participating in the event in recent years. Matches are a bit shorter, beginning in 17 and increasing to 25 points in the final, Thus increasing the element of Luck in the game.



• Pro-AM Doubles Championship
- This tournament is held in the Bahamas, which has been the PLACE to play Backgammon matches since Prince Obolensky first organized the tournaments there in 1964. In the late 90's the tournament was moved to Florida and then a few years later to Las Vegas, Nevada. The tournament is now held every November.
